Tensile, tear or burst: frame the right equipment enquiry

Different tests ask different questions about a fabric. Define the question before choosing the instrument.

Describe the end use

Explain how the textile will be handled and where failures are being observed. Include construction, composition and the relevant customer requirement. This helps define a useful test discussion without assuming that one test predicts every aspect of performance.

Keep test types distinct

Tensile testing, tear testing and burst testing use different loading approaches. Results from one approach should not be treated as interchangeable with another. The applicable method and material determine which approach is appropriate.

Confirm the configuration

Ask about force or pressure range, specimen dimensions, grips, consumables and result capture. Request written confirmation that the quoted configuration addresses your selected method.

Agree acceptance before purchase

Define the demonstration material, installation checks, operator training and documents you expect at handover. Any claimed capability should be supported by the supplier’s technical documentation.

General purchasing guidance only. Refer to the current official test method and verified equipment documentation for technical decisions.
